While many other subgenres were forming in the late 60s including glam rock and progressive rock, many of these pioneering musicians didn’t have commercial success until the 70s where acts like Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, and Led Zeppelin became cultural icons, despite all being very diverse musically. Electric guitars were also becoming a lead instrument, with musicians such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix becoming prominent in the blues, rock, and psychedelic rock scenes which peaked during the late 60s and early 70s. Acts such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Kinks had a cross-Atlantic appeal, and their sound was dubbed the British Invasion. Meanwhile, in Britain, bands were still inspired by American R'n'B and blues, but were creating more energetic and upbeat songs. The most commercially successful act at the time was The Beach Boys, who quickly became the poster boys for the movement. In the early 60s, California was a leading light of the electric guitar with a number of acts moving away from rock’n’roll towards surf music. During this period, musicians were moving away from the acoustic guitar and picking up electric guitars instead. At that time, there were many popular solo artists including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins.
While rock’n’roll had been increasing in popularity in the US for several years, it wasn’t until 1955 that Bill Haley’s Rock Around The Clock reached No 1 in the charts, paving the way for rock music to become a prominent part of music culture. Even from its inception, rock music has been constantly evolving, and continuously creating subgenres that can be sourced from all over the world.
Hence I am rating "Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" a five out of ten stars.Rock music first grew out of the rock’n’roll movement of the 1940s and 50s, which itself was inspired by country and African-American rhythm and blues from the 1920s and 30s. But the overall enjoyment of it was just mediocre. Sure, there were fun moments to the storyline as well. Something that worked against the entertainment value of this 2015 animated movie in my opinion. No, that just gave this particular animated Scooby-Doo movie a way too cartoony and childish feel. However, giving the KISS members superabilities and being able to fly? Come on. Sure, with their history of putting KISS on anything with commercial value, I can relate to them joining in here on the Scooby-Doo franchise. It is, of course, always nice to have the same cast return to do the voicing for the characters in the franchise Frank Welker (as Fred and Scooby-Doo), Mindy Cohn (as Velma), Grey Griffin (as Daphne) and Matthew Lillard (as Shaggy).Īnd having KISS in the animated movie was a bit of a mixed experience for me. While the story is entertaining for what a Scooby-Doo animated movie usually is, then "Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" is not the best of animated Scooby-Doo adventures available. Plus, there were some very trippy scenes throughout the story as well. But throw the rock band KISS into the equation and you end up with this movie. Now, "Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery" was your average run-of-the-mill Scooby-Doo adventure. And of course you see a lot of shameless KISS merchandise promotion here, which I really hope was a spoof on themselves and their ability to put KISS on everything that can make a buck. Of course you'd find KISS to be the band that put their name to the "Scooby-Doo" franchise, for better or worse. Reviewed by paul_haakonsen 5 / 10 A bit too goofy and cartoony. With help from Kiss, they discover that the Crimson Witch has returned to summon the Destroyer from the alternate dimension of Kissteria.
We join the Gang at Kiss World - the all-things-Kiss theme park, as they investigate a series of strange hauntings. Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Gang team up with the one and only rock band KISS in this all-new, out-of-this-world adventure.
